Daves Place

Up

`Dave's Place' is a pretty nice place to go slope soaring when the wind is out of the North to North West. It's off of RR 620 near Cedar Street, less than a mile south of Steiner Ranch. Coordinates are 30 deg 23.581' N and 97 deg 52.687' W, at an altitude of 917 feet.

Dave lives here, and he flies R/C planes too, and he's nice enough to let other modelers fly here as well. Unfortunately, he's trying to sell the land, so it may not last much longer.

Current weather for Dave's Place can be found here.

From the air, it looks like this (we fly from the north side of that little loop in the middle of the map.)

This is at the top of the hill, looking down. This is where you stand and fly. The middle of this picture is roughly NNW, so this is a good place to fly with NNW -> N winds.

pict1038

This is roughly looking west. I guess a westerly wind would be ok for flying too.

This is almost looking south (the middle of the picture is probably SSW.) You can just make out Mansfield Dam (where the water ends.)

I think that's Dave's house.

This day I was the only person out here, but I've been here with 8 people flying at once. You end up with quite a few mid-air collisions -- it's fun! (these planes handle it just fine.)

In case you were wondering, this is St. Lukes on the Lake.

Alas, Dave sold the property, and a house was built down below anyways, so we can't fly here anymore. It will be missed.
